Denim&casual fashions for autumn/winter 2010/11 shrug off all excess and extremes to return to their roots and recreate some really warm, versatile and comfortable clothes. Men and women’s outwear places priority on keeping out the cold and protecting the body from wind, rain and snow. Padded coats are mid length, increasingly shaped to the body, constructed almost like coats with only moderate padding. Preference is given to shawl collars for women whilst masculine versions are trimmed with fur and often developed into hoods. Winter 2010 also welcomes back sheepskins and Shearling in the form of both shaggy, rather primitive long coats, like those worn by hunters in The American forests, followed by more traditional aviator jackets. Whilst women can choose from small, light jackets. The military wardrobe is picked up and reworked to create brand-new trenches, enveloping double breasted coats and jackets fastened with belts all characterised by clean lines, far removed from severe uniforms. Reference is also made to another uniform, that of the street, with black leather biker jackets for both men and women, tough by day, glam by night. In line with this return to original casual wear, man spends much of his free time outdoors, in the woods, suitably attired in thick tartan shirts and jackets, waterproof parkas and open country cardigans made from the finest yarn, all essential garments for a decidedly relaxed lifestyle. Women also succumb to comfortable everyday clothes whilst adding some flirty feminine touches: sheaths, tunics and pinafores made of sensually enveloping knitted fabric or wool jersey. Dresses featuring an unexpected pair of cute Bambi eyes are welcomed as instant icons. Over size dresses and maxi-pulls are followed by country style cardigans imbued with a rather urban air and fastened around the waist with a leather belt. Roomy overalls and dungarees, in denim and other fabrics, take turns with black skinny leather or disco trousers, the latter authentic leggings made of metalled fabric. From mini shorts in denim, suede or fabric to short balloon skirts with artful side pleating, an infinity of knee length styles embellished with flounces and plissé, full circles and kilts, with particular attention focused on movement. Naturally continuing with jeans, yet whilst women continue to prefer skinny models, often shortened to calf length or above, men tend to opt for tracksuit bottoms or work trousers in lighter, abundant denim.
